Bagua Map
Feng Shui Bagua map consists of eight trigrams. This map is also called Pa-kua.
There are many more types of Bagua maps that are used for different purposes. This is one of the simplest maps representing perfect balance between elements.
You may have read in some websites the explanation that Bagua and Pa-kua are different maps, but this is not the case. These are just different pronunciations of the same map. Check this page for other Feng Shui words that can be pronounced in different ways.
Eight trigrams (the solid and broken lines of three in the map) developed from yin and yang. These trigrams are symbols representing transitional phases of all possible natural and human situations. If you understand the eight trigrams, you will know how to improve positive chi and reduce negative chi energy.
In the eight trigrams, yang is represented by a solid line whereas yin is represented by a broken line. These eight trigrams are called bagua and they represent the maximum number of yin and yang combinations in sets of 3.
Bagua, properly translated, means “Creating heaven on earth”. You can use bagua for many purposes, including finding out people’s personality types, detecting illnesses, locating different chi energies in your home, finding out the time of the day.
Although there are many sources claiming that only by looking at the map alone one can tell where the wealth, career, and other corners of your house are, this is not correct. If you want to really know what each of the corner of your home represents, you need to know the date the house was build, you need to have the compass and make some quite complex calculations. You may find out that you even have not one, but several wealth or love areas in your house.
This Feng Shui Bagua map represents perfect balance. It shows which elements balance each other and you can use this map to create harmony in your home.
Check your home for any imbalances, such as too much water or wood element and neutralise that element with the one found on the opposite direction of the arrow. For example, if you have too much red color or candles in one area (fire symbol in the map), balance that by putting water symbols, such as a glass of water or an item of black color.
If you cannot use some elements, like fire or water because of safety or other reasons, use their corresponding colors found on this page.
You may be confused as to what the Earth and Heaven represent in the map. As you have read, the broken lines of the trigram represent the female energies (Yin) and the solid lines – male energies (Yang). You can see that where there is a picture of Heaven, there are three solid lines below the picture. That represents male energy. The three broken lines below the Earth picture represent the female energy. So if you have too many earthly, passive or feminine items/qualities in some area of your home, balance that with spiritual, active or masculine items/qualities.
This Feng Shui Bagua map is a perfect start if you are just learning how to harmonize your home.
